Abstract

Recent breakthroughs in neuroscience have uncovered the complex roles of brain wave patterns in regulating behaviours essential for sleep and learning. This symposium will explore how these brain waves influence neural plasticity, memory consolidation, and sleep architecture. This symposium aims to unravel the intricate roles of brain wave patterns in regulating brain function across different states of consciousness.

First, we will explore the fundamental neurobiological mechanisms driving the generation of brain waves during sleep and learning. Next, we will examine how these oscillations influence neural plasticity and memory consolidation, highlighting their essential roles in cognitive processes. Finally, we will compare brain wave patterns between natural sleep and anesthesia, where similar neural activity underpins distinct functional outcomes, such as the absence of learning in anesthetic states.
